Legal Action
Everyone has human rights and an expectation to be protected from unlawful actions of the State.
Complaints
In the pursuit of justice and to promote accountability, UNJUST encourages and assists people with raising complaints about the conduct of public officials. We offer free advocacy support with complaint submissions.
To arrange an appointment to discuss your complaint, please email info@unjust.org.uk
Legal Referral
UNJUST understands that for people to enforce their legal rights effectively they must have easier access to trusted high-quality legal representation. We operate a referral system that connects civil and criminal lawyers to those in need of their expertise.
To be referred or for legal referral enquires please email info@unjust.org.uk
Strategic Legal Challenges
In addition to assisting individuals, UNJUST undertakes strategic legal cases to achieve broader social change.
In January 2021, UNJUST and Awate Suliman instructed Liberty and Doughty Street Chambers to issue judicial review proceeds against The Metropolitan Police Service for its use of the Gang Matrix. The case was given permission to proceed, and £18,000 was raised to cover our legal costs.
In November 2021, The Metropolitan Police Service settled the claim and admitted that the database breached article 8 of the Human Rights Act 1988. This victory is a progressive step in holding the State accountable for the discriminatory policies and practices it creates to target Black, Asian and other racialised communities.
